Anonymous asked: Don't you think you may be perpetuating racial divides by suggesting that people of color "need" a character of color in order to identify? Maybe come up with a well written character regardless of ethnicity that anyone can identify with. It's nice to see someone of like ethnicity, and diversity is exceptionally important, but personally I'd read and care about any character that's well written regardless of ethnicity/gender/orientation. Arbitrary swaps (Iceman, Fury) are the lazy way out.

Obviously, as you are anonymous, there is no way to tell who you are or what your background is. But this sounds like the argument of a person who is already well-represented in comics and who likes the status quo.
And i think the overwhelming reaction that we’ve received from people whose backgrounds are similar to those of Kamala Khan or Sam Wilson or Iceman or Storm or whomever are a pretty good indicator that, while there isn’t a “need” for such a thing, there is certainly a desire.
Put another way, you shouldn’t “need” iceman to be straight or Fury to be a white dude in order to identify with them either.
